About this website

The purpose of this Website is not only to inform you the reader about what I (Tony) do in my dual roles as a technical writer and graphic designer, but also to make this Website interesting to read. Please note that this Website was designed for the screen and uses Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).

So, for the most part, presentation and content have been kept separate. This was intentional, as it is fairly easy to change the look of the Website, when required, without affecting the content.

Websites, Intranets, user guides, & manuals

Information is presented in many forms. Each medium used has its own set of benefits and constraints. For example, only a limited amount of information can be conveyed in an advertisement.

However, if you provide a website address in your advertisements, on your business cards, fridge magnets etc, you now provide a way for people to find out more information about you. There is also a memory retention and reinforcement benefit too. People tend to remember a website address in an advertisement more readily than a telephone number.

A website is also an opportunity to make a range of additional resources available online, for example product brochures in Adobe Acrobat format. Visitors can then download and print these resources for themselves from a website as required which can save on printing costs as well as provide convenience for visitors to the website.
